For most small businesses, Claude and ChatGPT both handle everyday work well: posts, emails, plans, reviewing a spreadsheet. Their main paid plans cost the same $20 a month, so choose based on where you work every day, which integrations you need and how each one treats your data.

The short answer

  • Your day runs on Gmail and Google Docs? Also look at Gemini, which works inside them on a paid plan.

  • You want one assistant for everything, from text to images? Start with ChatGPT.

  • You work with many long documents and files? Try Claude's Projects.

  • You face an important decision? Use one as your main tool and the other as a critic.

All three have free plans, so test them for a week on a real task before you pay.

Which tool for which task?

Posts, emails and product descriptions

All three do this well. What matters is your context: save a short business description and a sample of your tone in a Project (ChatGPT, Claude) or a Gem (Gemini) so you don't repeat it in every chat.

Analysing a spreadsheet: sales, costs, prices

ChatGPT and Claude can run code on an uploaded spreadsheet. Always ask: "Show me which columns and how many rows you calculated." A number you can't trace is a guess, not a fact.

Long documents and many files

Contracts, procedures, past reports: keep them in a Project so every chat can use them. Claude's free plan includes up to 5 Projects, ChatGPT has Projects on every plan, and in Gemini you use Gems and Notebooks.

Research with sources

All three can search the web. Gemini includes Deep Research on the free plan; Claude's Research comes with Pro. Whichever you use, ask for a source and a link for every figure, and open the link yourself.

Working in Gmail and Docs

If you write emails and documents in Google, Gemini on AI Pro helps you right there. ChatGPT and Claude connect to Gmail and Google Drive through connectors: the AI sees only what that account can access.

One AI or two?

One paid subscription is enough for a small business. Keep the second AI on its free plan and use it as a critic: show it the important answer, give it evaluation criteria first, then ask it to find the weak spots. You still make the decision. More on this in how to use ChatGPT effectively.

Which plan should you choose?

  1. Start free and test on real tasks for a week.

  2. Upgrade when you use AI daily and hit the limits. The main plans of all three cost around $20 a month.

  3. Consider a team plan when two or more people use AI with business data. For example, ChatGPT Business does not train on business data by default.

FAQ

Is Claude or ChatGPT better for a small business?

There is no single answer. Both handle writing, analysis and files well, and the main plans cost the same. Test both on your real task and keep the one whose answers need fewer fixes.

Do I need to pay for all of them?

No. One paid plan plus the others on free plans, used as critics, is plenty for a small business.

How much does ChatGPT cost for a small business?

ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month for one person. ChatGPT Business is $25 per seat per month, or $20 billed annually, and does not train on your business data by default.

Do prices change often?

Yes, and new plans appear. We date this page and update it; check the official pricing page before you pay.
